The Magic of Weighted Blankets
How Weighted Blankets Work for Kids
When you're hugged, your brain releases oxytocin. This chemical, sometimes referred to as the "cuddle hormone," makes us feel warm, secure, and relaxed.
Weighted blankets aim to mimic this experience, leveraging the relation factor to lull your child to sleep.
This sensation is called DTP or deep touch pressure therapy. Along with oxytocin, the hormone serotonin, the "happy" hormone, can also be released. This hormone also increases a sense of calm and well-being. DTP works by applying deep, even pressure to your nervous system, resulting in reduced levels of cortisol, the "stress" hormone, and therefore a more restful night's sleep.
For the DTP to be effective, a blanket weighing 10% of the user's bodyweight is recommended, so your child doesn't feel weighed down or trapped.
We recommend the 3kg Calm Cub for ages 3-9 and the 5kg Calm Cub for ages 10+.
